How to Clean a Iron

My grossly neglected iron. Shame on me.

I smeared it with the pulp from my home made cleaning detergent. This picture is taken in my hobby room, so sorry about the mess.

I let it sit for 2 hours and then used a scouring sponge. Everything came off easily

To get rid of the lime scale I poured a mix of equal amount of distilled water and plain white vinegar. I let it sit for 1/2 hour without power on just to clean the tank. Then let it steam for 5 mins.

To get the vinegar/water out I rinsed It with distilled water, just by pouring it into the iron and then.........➡

Pouring it out again. I did this twice just to be sure no vinegar was left. So now my iron actually steams again and is muck free. This home made detergent keeps impressing me.
